Sleep quality is also linked to the environment you sleep in, and the mattress you lay on.

Of all the four reasons people lose sleep - this aspect is the easiest to make changes to.

Your environment includes:

  1. The darkness of your room
  2. The temperature of your room
  3. How hot you get in your bed

The mattress you lie on is also instrumental in determining wether or not you'll sleep easy. As we age, the mattress makes up far more of a reason why you wake uncomfortable, compared when you were young.

Specifically, if you're sore when in bed. There's a reason. Here are some common reasons:

  1. Your mattress is just OLD.
  2. You have sore shoulders and the mattress doesn't support you in a way to take load away from them
  3. You have lower back pain from e.g. a disc prolapse and your mattress is too soft
  4. You have lower back pain from facet or joint degenerative change and you wake sore because you spine isn't held in a supportive way overnight.
  5. Your neck is sore, because despite lots of pillows bought over the years, nothing seems to "work".
